Asthma Care Center
Help educate our members
One of Keystone First’s goals is an effort to increase our members' medication adherence with regard to asthma. According to a December 2012 report published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, "non-adherence has been estimated to cost the U.S. health care system between $100 billion and $289 billion annually," and to be the cause for at least 10 percent of all hospitalizations.
We have tools and programs to help you identify members who are struggling to adhere to their care plan.
Healthy Hoops is an asthma education program that Keystone First and its Healthy Hoops Coalition partners use to teach children and their families how to manage asthma through appropriate medication usage, proper nutrition, and monitored exercise.
This innovative program includes hands-on asthma education plus basketball coaching sessions for the children from local coaches, and entertainment for the whole family. The asthma education includes health assessments, spirometry screenings (to test lung capacity), asthma, cardiovascular, and nutrition education sessions, and parent education sessions.
